The Gecko in the Namib Dessert lift alternate feet to avoid the scorching heat of the sand and cools it’s feet whilst it does this, an adaptation to enable it to live in it’s environment, the half full glass is a paradox about our own adaptation strategies, is it half full or half empty? The view out of the window, is a daydream, but in the end, we mostly adapt to our situation. Some might see that as sad and, in some circumstances, it is, but for me it is a recognition of the mundane in all our lives, I am happy with the mundane at times.
Made in 2021, at a time my interest in colour theory and shape deepened, shape is the primary method of recognition, but colour adds depth and emotion. The work is acrylic on canvas, frame size: 66 x 76 x 5cm, image size: 50 x 60 x 4cm.
