Twelve Circles

I am intrigued by colour and shapes, and how the human eye perceives them. With colour what we see is Interestingly what light comes into the eye and is interpreted by the brain, am example would be an evergreen plant, it has weight and volume but it does not possess the green that we see, it is green to us because it reflects the green light.  I believe it reflects many colours in small quantities along with the green and so I add different colours in small quantities to add to the depth of the colours I paint.  This may be through textured layers or very thin washes of flat colour.

On shape again our own perspective influences what we see an exaggerated example would be if a snooker ball were the size of Earth, the Earth an obloid, (a slightly squashed sphere it would be smoother.

This work features hand-drawn shapes that only appear circular.

Of the twelve overlapping circles depicted, only one is shown in its entirety. The remaining circles are partially visible and must be imagined extending beyond the frame. The largest circle, suggested by the small curve at the bottom left, would be six times the size of the image.

This work is inspired by the joy in deeper observation , seeing, experience, and appreciating my being here to witness and examine these phenomenon through my work.
